The wait is over, and the Indian EV landscape is about to experience a massive shockwave. Maruti Suzuki, the undisputed king of Indian roads, has officially thrown its hat into the electric ring with the 2026 Maruti e-Vitara.
For years, we’ve watched competitors dominate the affordable EV space. But Maruti bided its time, developing a global product that is now ready to take over our streets. Whether you are looking for tech, range, or aggressive pricing, the e-Vitara is demanding your attention. Here is everything you need to know about Maruti’s historic electric debut.
The Price: Disrupting the Market with BaaS
Let’s cut right to the chase—how much will it cost? Maruti has brought a highly aggressive pricing strategy to the table by introducing the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model.

- BaaS Pricing: Starts at a jaw-dropping Rs. 10.99 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Delta variant, plus a battery rental fee of Rs. 3.99 per kilometer.
- Outright Purchase: If you prefer to own the battery outright, prices kick off at Rs. 15.99 Lakh and go up to Rs. 20.01 Lakh for the top-tier Alpha Dual Tone.
This pricing strategy places the e-Vitara directly in the crosshairs of the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400, sparking an all-out electric price war.
Power & Range: Goodbye Range Anxiety?
The e-Vitara isn’t just a repurposed internal combustion car; it’s built from the ground up for electricity. It comes in two battery configurations to suit different driving needs:

- 49 kWh Battery: Produces 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque, delivering a claimed range of 440 km. Perfect for the daily city grind.
- 61 kWh Battery: Bumps the power to 172 bhp and offers a massive ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km.
Charging is a breeze, too. Hook it up to a 150 kW DC fast charger, and you can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in just 45 minutes.
Morphology: A Design Evolution
The Vitara nameplate has seen many forms, but the e-Vitara is a massive leap forward. In our Morphology series, we constantly look at how front fascias and steering wheels evolve, and Maruti has completely rewritten their rulebook here.

Gone is the traditional slotted grille, replaced by a sleek, closed-off aerodynamic front end with sharp tri-slash LED daytime running lights. Step inside, and the evolution continues. The e-Vitara features a brand-new, premium two-spoke multifunction steering wheel that makes older Maruti parts-bin steering wheels look ancient. It feels modern, futuristic, and perfectly tailored for the EV era.
Tech & Cabin Experience
The interior is an absolute treat for the lens—expect some highly aesthetic wide-angle shots on our Instagram soon. The cabin is dominated by a dual-screen setup housed under a single glass pane: a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen.

It’s loaded with features previously unheard of in a Maruti:
- Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)
- A fixed panoramic glass roof
- Ventilated front seats
- Infinity by Harman premium sound system
- 360-degree surround-view camera
The Verdict
While we love diving into the history of old-school, gas-guzzling Grand Vitaras with their thirsty V6 engines in our Past Lane episodes, the e-Vitara proves that the future is undeniably electric. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t just built an EV; they’ve built a global contender that is highly practical, fiercely priced, and packed with modern tech.
